MONEYREA PRIMARY SCHOOL

Let me introduce you to Moneyrea Primary School.

There has been a schoolhouse in Moneyrea/Moneyreagh dating back as far as the 1700s. Indeed the National and Lyttle Memorial Schools are still to be found in the village.

Moneyrea Primary School is situated at the heart of Moneyreagh Village on the Church Road. Nestling halfway between Castlereagh and Ballygowan, the school enjoys a rural setting with convenient access to the city.

The school draws its pupils from a wide catchment area which includes; Ballygowan, Carryduff, Comber, Gransha, Crossnacreevy, Ryan Park and of course Moneyreagh.

At Moneyrea there is something to suit every interest and activities include, football, netball, rugby, cricket, athletics, hockey, swimming, drama, dodgeball, SU, gymnastics, tennis, Scottish Dancing, French, Cycling Proficiency, Cookery, Instrument tuition, Choir, Eco School, Drama, Dance alongside a daily Breakfast Club and After School Club which also operates throughout the holidays.

The building and surrounding grounds are maintained to a high standard and provide a pleasant working environment for staff and pupils alike.

Our school consists of seven classrooms, computer suite, library, after school club room, dining hall/gym, infant and senior toilets, staffroom, kitchen and two offices.

A new classroom and entrance foyer were completed in June 2009.

There are three separate play areas for pupils, including a purpose-built play area at the Toddle In Playgroup which our younger pupils have the use of and an adventure play trail.

In good weather we make use of the grass pitch to the rear of the school and when the new Community Centre opens in January 2009, we will have use of the sports hall for PE and school functions etc.
EXTENSION

An extension was completed in July 2001 providing three additional classrooms. The new building included an extension to the present school hall, girls' toilets, a new staffroom and a resource area, housing the school's library and computer suite.
